When you run a 99 Cent Store, you don’t make a lot of money per unit. The problem with having a price limit of 99 cents on an item is that you can’t go above it just to make a bigger profit. While some stores may be able to offer an item at $1.49 in order to make a larger profit, you have to live within the confines of your pricing. With that said, you don’t make money on customers who make money on one item, you make it on customers who are going to buy 20 or 30 items. When you get a person who is going to buy lot of items from your store, you end up taking that small profit margin per unit and really making money on it. With all of that said, you do need to look at ways to make sure that customers walk out of the store with more than just one item. Here are four ways that you can help yourself do it:
1. Set Up Your Store Cleanly

Last night at the Golden Globes, awards were handed out to both great movies and TV shows, but all I could focus on was what the stars were wearing! Here’s a quick round-up of my thoughts on the show and some of my favorite looks. All images are from style.com. The one-two punch of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned again and I could not have been happier. I loved the dresses they wore during their opening monologue, even though I had to rewind just to see the dresses because I was laughing so hard at first. Kudos to both of them for calling out so many big time celebrities and still looking great while doing so. In what seemed like a sea of whites, blacks, and reds last night, I thought this teal Calvin Klein dress on Reese Witherspoon was amazing. So fresh, so modern, loved it. Ok call me crazy, but I wasn’t crazy about Jennifer Lawrence’s pick last night. There’s something off about the fit of this dress around the waist and hips, and as gorgeous as Jennifer is, I would love to see her rock a dress with some color. There are still plenty of award shows left, and I have a feeling she’ll definitely be nominated, so keeping my fingers crossed for great dresses in February and March. Leave it to two pregnant women to show us all how it’s done! I cannot get over Olivia Wilde’s shiny emerald dress, and the cut of Kerry Washington’s dress is so fresh and a great new take on maternity. I’m a sucker for anything involved a white button-down shirt, so there’s a part of me that just can’t help but love this dress on Julia Roberts, even though I’m thinking most of the fashion world will disagree. I do wonder if it might be a little too old for her, but it fits her great, her hair is wonderful, and for me, this dress is a winner. Take note: if there is a way to get noticed in the best possible way at your first big awards show, Lupita Nyong’o set the standard last night. The dress, the hair, the makeup, the CAPE- everything was spot on. I’ll admit I wasn’t specifically looking for her as I flipped through the fashion slideshows this morning, but the minute I saw this picture I immediately stopped and stared, and I cannot wait to see what she wears at future award shows. Margot Robbie = modern day bombshell. And her shoes were emerald! I’m telling you, orchid might be the official color of 2014, but emerald is still here to stay. And we know all about some emerald shoes. Color-blocking and tone on tone was all over the red carpet last night (especially tones of red!), and for me, Amy Adams pulled it off the best. I thought this gown was a great nod to her American Hustle Film, and how burgundy is still such a huge color in the fashion world. Last but by no means least was hands down my favorite couple of the night. Let’s start with Camila- a black, sequined, form-fitting, full length, long sleeved gown? Kind of gives me heart palpitations it’s so fabulous. And everyone is saying how Matthew McConaughey “let his wife shine,” but when you’re wearing an emerald velvet blazer, make no mistake about it, you’re attracting some well-deserved attention of your own. Alright alright alright What were your favorite and not-so-favorite looks of the night? Can’t wait for more award shows this season! – Erin
